(More customer reviews)I received the 878AD yesterday and conclude that it is an outstanding value for hobby electronic users (at least).
The iron heats quickly and spare tips are available (Hakko & clones).
The air tool also heats quickly, and is nearly silent. The hot air tool senses placement in it's holder and will slowly ramp down the temperature before shutting off.
It seems light years ahead of a cheap "fire starter". The price is comparable to a quality temperature controlled iron.
I suppose the big unknown is long term durability, but at least it made a great start.
